Knobs That Adorn Your Cabinet

by guestpost on March 31, 2009

Every home has storage cabinets in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, study and kitchen. Your items of daily use as well as items for long term storage are kept in cabinets. In order to open those cabinets, you need knobs on those cabinets. Knobs have three main advantages. Firstly, they require only one screw to be fitted. Secondly, they occupy very little space. Thirdly, knobs adorn your cabinets. Glass knobs look exceptionally beautiful. Rose shaped knobs feel great to touch and come in pink, red and amber colors. Metal knobs shaped as fruits, sea-creatures, vintage cars and bugs look great, especially for kids’ rooms.

The humble knob

by guestpost on December 19, 2008

What is a knob? No one asks such a silly question. The humble knob has around as long as furniture has been around. It has gone through major evolution in size, material and mostly in design; but the shape more or less remains the same. Nevertheless, its utility value is ever increasing and no one realizes that. You see it on doors, windows, cabinets, shoe racks, wardrobes, electronic items and even on kitchen utensil covers. It has utility value in your homes as well as in a spacecraft. On earth or in space, it faithfully does it’s duty. All it needs is a single screw and it sits on your drawers and cabinets providing service for years. It hardly complains. It is fixed at such a strategic point that just a tug on it makes the cabinet door rotate on its hinges and submit. If you ever want to see the creativity ability of man, look at the knob. Man has transformed this simple fixture into a piece of art. The early knobs were made of wood. Today, knobs are available worldwide in various shapes, sizes, materials and colors. They are made of copper, brass, crystal or glass. Crystal knobs are stronger than glass and they are artistically cut to give beautiful appearance.

A Knob – Take its Place in the Home

by guestpost on November 21, 2008

When you consider the thousands of different products in your home, some very high tech and complicated systems are in the mix; products that we couldn’t conceive of doing without, like the furnace and the air conditioner. The electrical system and the plumbing system are each far more complicated than most people can comprehend, they make our lives more comfortable and less stressful. But consider the lowly knob. Perhaps the least sophisticated piece of technology in your house, the knob achieves maximum functionality with minimal technology. Virtually no training is involved in the use of a knob; it’s practically defines intuitive. When you walk into a room and you see a computer, or even a blender or an oven, you’re compelled to pause before you attempt to use them, to ensure you actually know how. Not so with the knob. You walk into a room and you see a knob, instantly you know how it works. Chances are you can even do it blindfolded, try that with a microwave and somebody’s dinner is going to be ruined. The real beauty of a knob is that it lends character to your cabinets without demanding anything in return. No electricity no complicated cleaning process and they almost never break down.

Cabinet Knobs for the 21st Century

by guestpost on November 7, 2008

Gone forever are the days when cabinet knobs consisted of small pieces of turned wood, or perhaps a piece of molded glass. These days there are many different choices one can make that incorporate a great deal more technology than those of the good old days. Beginning with the brushed finish that first became popular in the latter stages of the 20th century, and then to the sweeping, outer space designs that conjure up images of an intergalactic village. Certainly wooden cabinet knobs will always have a place in the design of a home and its cabinets, they’re functional, cheap and easy to install. You don’t need a level, you just need a hole. And the glass knobs of the early 1900s, while dated, still hold a certain charm for many home owners. And who’s to say that your cabinet knobs have to match throughout your house? You can experiment with separate styles for the upstairs and downstairs, or change the style in every room. There’s no end to the creativity you can exercise, and no end to the choices available to you. Before you start, though, make sure you take the time to spend an afternoon wandering through the hardware section of your favorite store.

Knobs for the home

by guestpost on October 31, 2008

If you thought that knobs for your drawers and doors in your home are only available in the generic, round style, you are seriously mistaken. Novelty pulls are also a big hit if you want to personalize your kitchen, bathroom, or any other room in your home. There are many motives available when it comes to novelty knobs, among the choices you’ll find deer, moose and elks for the hunting enthusiast, guns, eagle feathers and longhorns for the fan of the old west, any types of fish for the fisherman, birds for the birdwatcher, and practically anything else under the sun. Of course, you will also find the traditional knobs, such as brass or wooden ones. Pulls of porcelain, plastic, brass, and steel are among the hundreds of choices you’ll find in your local hardware store or on the Internet. The porcelain ones look great in a bathroom, whereas ornamental brass would look great on those built-in drawers in the den. There are no rules as to what style of knob applies to what cabinet or drawer. Use your imagination, but if you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, choose knobs that are easy to install, durable, and good-looking. The porcelain pulls always look good in a bathroom, and ornamental brass would be great on those built-in drawers in the den.
