Just like buttons on a blazer, knobs give beauty and character to your cabinets. There are many ways to refurbish your home. Stripping the wallpaper and painting may not be your cup of tea. However, replacing cabinet knobs can be a DIY project for you. You can work from cabinet to cabinet at your own pace.
Knobs lose their finish with time. They therefore begin to look old and boring. Assuming that your cabinets are still beautiful, changing the cabinet knobs can transform your entire room. While shopping for knobs, keep in mind that flashy and mirror-finished knobs may not be the best, unless they go along with your theme. If you have contemporary furnishings, the rule of thumb is not too flashy, not too dull.

Now, knobs have to be the cheapest renovation to completely change a kitchen. For a whole new look, choose new ones for your cabinets and drawers and cut years off your kitchen.
Even if they are inexpensive as a renovation itself, still you can invest a reasonable amount of money on beautiful, elegant knobs to change the aspect of a dresser and update an old piece instead of discarding it.
You can also change the ones on your doors and create a whole new aspect for your hallway with stylish antique doorknobs or modern ones carved in your favorite gemstone. They really give an entirely fresh style, for a small investment.

There are a number of different types of knobs that you can use, from round and smooth, to textured and lever styles. The lever style is not technically a knob, but is often listed along with round knobs and serves the same purpose. Finding the right style for the door is a matter of personal taste. If you are looking for understated and functional, then a matte finish brass knob is perfect. If you like a little glitz and glamour, then glass or faux glass knobs are the ones for you. If you would like to make your own, you can paint the knob to fit the room, however make sure that you are using the right type of paint for your material.
