Appliance handles, not just handles anymore

by guestpost on February 1, 2009

A few years ago, there were only two basic types of appliance handles available, the knob type or the wire type. Most people didn’t care for anything else. Not so today. There are hundreds of models and styles of handles to choose from. The materials range from metal to wood, glass, and plastic of course. And they are not just handles anymore; they are called cabinet pulls, appliance pulls, cabinet knobs, and bar pulls. As the saying goes, “a dear child has many names”.  The style of your kitchen cabinets should determine your choice of appliance handles. They should fit together. Smooth, painted or Formica paneled doors may need stainless steel, straight type handles. A kitchen with oak wood cabinets may be fitted wit a more ornate style appliance handles. The beautiful thing is that you can find the same style of handles for your refrigerator and freezer that you chose for your cabinets. There are so many manufacturers of appliance handles that you will probably go nuts trying to look for them in hardware stores. The recommended strategy is to first look up the brand and style you like on the Internet, then find out what retailers carry them. Then you can either order them on a website, or personally go to the retailer you like, and buy them there. That is a personal choice.
