Gone forever are the days when cabinet knobs consisted of small pieces of turned wood, or perhaps a piece of molded glass. These days there are many different choices one can make that incorporate a great deal more technology than those of the good old days. Beginning with the brushed finish that first became popular in the latter stages of the 20th century, and then to the sweeping, outer space designs that conjure up images of an intergalactic village. Certainly wooden cabinet knobs will always have a place in the design of a home and its cabinets, they’re functional, cheap and easy to install. You don’t need a level, you just need a hole. And the glass knobs of the early 1900s, while dated, still hold a certain charm for many home owners. And who’s to say that your cabinet knobs have to match throughout your house? You can experiment with separate styles for the upstairs and downstairs, or change the style in every room. There’s no end to the creativity you can exercise, and no end to the choices available to you. Before you start, though, make sure you take the time to spend an afternoon wandering through the hardware section of your favorite store.
